Abbreviation
The short form of a word is called as an Abbreviation. Sometimes, full stops are used after each letter; but for frequently used abbreviation, the full stop are not used.
eg. govt, Jan
An Acronym is also an Abbreviation. It is formed from the first letter of the word and sometimes pronounce as a word and sometimes spelt out.
Example.
PWD - Public Work Department.
PAN - Permanent Account Number
