ADDITIVE INVERSE AND MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSE

Learn and Remember:

 1. Additive inverse : Two rational numbers whose sum is zero are called opposite numbers. Each is said to be the additive inverse of the other.

e.g. 2+(-2)=0.    2 is the additive inverse of – 2 and vice versa.

For a rational number  ^a ⁄ _b,  - ^a ⁄ _b  is its additive inverse.

2. Multiplicative inverse : If the product of two rational numbers is 1, then each is said to be the multiplicative inverse of the other.

e.g. 5 x ¹ ⁄ ₅ =1          

∴ 5 and  ¹ ⁄ ₅  are multiplicative inverses of each other.
